Gil "Levi Hawk" Melton

Born in California in 1937 and brought up in boarding and boys schools. The discipline provided time to create arts and craft projects at an early age. Age 12 until 17 I went to public school where I took shop classes and immediately after, joined the Navy serving on aircraft carriers.

While awaiting discharge in San Francisco, I hung out in the "bohemian" district. I went to college on the G.I. Bill taking auto sheet metal and art. I moved to Nevada for a few years working in body shops and then finally working at my art.

In 1980 when nothing else was working for me, I moved to Montana, set up a studio in an old bank. At that time I went to Europe for art study. On returning I bought an old bus barn for my studio/shop/living area and started showing in galleries and doing shows.
